Project Background

The Travel Calendar features watercolour paintings of different places worldwide. Each month showcases a unique location, capturing hand-painted artwork and details of the place. The paintings were scanned, digitized, and brought together in InDesign to create a calendar that's not only functional but also inspiring. The idea was to create something more than just a calendar that could bring inspiration into everyday life while keeping you organized.

Problem Statement

Many travel calendars are either too generic or rely heavily on stock photos, which don't always evoke that sense of personal connection or adventure. I wanted to create something using watercolour instead of photography to help people keep track of their time and inspire them to explore new places.

Vision Statement

Each watercolour painting takes the viewer to a different destination. The calendar's goal is to combine art and functionality, so it's not just a tool for planning, but also a source of daily inspiration. I wanted users to feel connected to the world around them and motivated to explore more.

I started by choosing locations from around the world that captured something special. The landscape, the culture, or the historical significance. Then I painted each destination in watercolour, paying attention to capturing the mood and character of the place. After scanning the paintings, I worked in InDesign to lay out the calendar, making sure the artwork stood out while also keeping it functional. I had to balance making the dates and other elements easy to read without taking away from the artwork.

I tested different colour schemes and layouts throughout the process to ensure everything flowed well. I also got feedback from a few people along the way to refine the design, making sure it was visually striking but still easy to use.

The final Travel Calendar is a functional calendar that could bring inspiration into everyday life. The watercolour artwork gave it a personal, handmade feel, which was exactly what I wanted. People really connected with the destinations and appreciated the calming, artistic vibe it gave off.
